The Executive Committee has approved the creation of a standing review committee to assess annual meeting proposals submitted for open, discipline-specific sessions (e.g., New Testament, Old Testament, Systematic Theology, etc.). Committee members will serve three-year terms with a third of the committee rotating off each year.
In the past, each program chair has worked to create a team of reviewers to assist in the process. The formation of a standing committee as opposed to our current ad hoc arrangement has a number of benefits:
- Greater continuity from year to year in the review process
- Ability for the committee to serve as a sounding board for new ideas related to the annual meeting proposal process
- Additional opportunities for significant professional service through the Society
- Greater participation by a broader group of society members
- Higher quality presentations at the annual meeting
We are calling on full members with completed Ph.D.s to consider serving in this capacity. We will need members to review proposals in the following areas: Old Testament, New Testament, Systematic Theology, Church History, and Practical Theology. Committee members will be responsible to:
- Review proposals May 15-June 15. (Some work can be done ahead of May 15, but sessions cannot be constructed prior to May 15)
- Work with other committee members within a discipline (e.g. New Testament) to suggest cohesive sessions composed from the highest rated papers
- Attend a planning/review session at the annual meeting
If you would be willing to serve in this capacity, please click here to submit a current C.V. and which discipline(s) you would be willing to review.
