Description:

Description:

This article challenges the contention that Polycarp of Smyrna was especially influenced by the writing of Clement of Rome, a contention that has often been repeated in the scholarly literature since the time of Lightfoot. The article argues, rather, that Polycarp was primarily influenced by Paul, secondarily by 1 Peter, and at a distant third, by 1 Clement.
