Position:

Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, announces a full-time, tenure track faculty position within the Institute for Spiritual Formation (ISF) at Talbot School of Theology beginning as early as Fall 2015.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses, both online and in-residence, at the graduate level in Spiritual Theology and Formation for Talbot’s Institute for Spiritual Formation.
  • Serving as team member with ISF Faculty and other university committees.
  • Supervising all capstone projects for ISF’s Online MA Spiritual Formation Emphasis.
  • Assisting in supervision of adjunct faculty for the ISF Online Program.
  • Leading and administrating online cohort groups to process students’ prayer experiences and program content.
  • Aiding in ongoing assessment for the ISF Online Program.
  • Continuing research and publication projects.
  • Participating in other professorial duties.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree preferred in Spiritual Theology and Formation (related subjects may include Theology, Old Testament, New Testament, Psychology or Philosophy, but the candidate would need to demonstrate substantial training related to spiritual formation). Promising ABD candidates may be considered in special cases.
  • This search is conducted for candidates whose interests include teaching in the areas of Spiritual Theology, Spiritual Formation and Practice, Theological and Psychological Basis of Formation, Spiritual Formation and Community-Family-Relationships, Theological Anthropology, Spiritual Formation in the Local Church, Psychological issues and Spiritual Formation, etc.
  • Teaching and other ministry experience is preferred.
  • Eagerness to teach online as well as in-residence. Online teaching experience desired but not required. Training will be provided.
  • Ability to organize oneself and classes around a non-traditional academic schedule.
  • Training and experience in spiritual direction desired though not required; possible opportunity to be trained in this.
  • Ability to supervise adjunct faculty in conjunction with team-teaching online courses.
  • Commitment to the spiritual development of students and to service in their local church.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, some evidence of scholarly activity, and potential to make contributions to their scholarly fields.
  • Candidates must be willing to relocate to La Mirada in order to work in-residence at Talbot’s campus.
