General Responsibilities: The Assistant/Associate Professor of Religion will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in religion specializing in Old Testament studies; and provide student support and advising in the School of Religion and Philosophy. As a faculty member of WBU he/she will represent the University’s academic and spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose.

Specific Tasks and Duties:
1. Prepare and teaching (24) semester hours per academic year through various modalities (face to face and online course settings)
2. Providing academic advising for undergraduate and graduate students as assigned
3. Actively engaging in School of Religion and Philosophy recruiting and retention initiatives
4. Cooperate with School of Religion and Philosophy faculty in curriculum and program development
5. Serving on University and School of Religion and Philosophy committees as assigned
6. Actively engaging in professional development and creative/scholarly activities
7. Actively engaging in service to all churches and Baptist denominational bodies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and License:
The candidate must have an earned doctorate in Old Testament studies or closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Experience and Knowledge:
Previous collegiate or seminary teaching is preferred. Previous service in local church staff ministry is preferred. Previous service in missional engagement is preferred.
1. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience teaching Old Testament courses in a college or university setting
2. Preference will be given to applicants with experience with Christian higher administrative experience and administrating an academic program successfully

Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to teach courses as assigned in face-to-face, hybrid, and online delivery methods
2. Willingness to work cooperatively and collegially with faculty in all areas of work of the School of Religion and Philosophy
3. Willingness to participate in planning, assessment, and improvement initiatives within the School of Religion and Philosophy and in the university as a whole
4. An interest in teaching at a university where teaching excellence is highly valued
5. A strong Christian commitment to be involved in the life of the university with students, faculty, and staff
6. Good written and verbal communication skills
7. Proficiency in Microsoft office and willingness to become proficient in classroom technology and Blackboard

Additional Requirements:
1. Active membership in a local Baptist church
2. Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs
3. Able to pass criminal and credit background checks
4. Have no delinquent or defaulted items on credit report
5. Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans. A credit check may be conducted to insure the requirement is met

Conditions of Employment:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel and teach at external campuses. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
