Annual Meeting FAQs

Why is this year’s meeting virtual?

A virtual meeting was necessary this year because of the pandemic. Due to restricted public gatherings, social distancing, and other challenges related to the COVID-19 crisis, the hotels and convention center in Providence were unable to host a meeting the size of the ETS Annual Meeting.

What is the registration cost for the 2020 Annual Meeting?

The registration fee for the Annual Meeting will remain at the early rate for the duration of the registration period ($50 for Full and Associate members, $40 for Retired and Student members, and $95 for Non-Members). See the link for registration below. The registration fee contributes to the significant costs of the virtual platform with synchronous and asynchronous program features for sessions, a virtual exhibit hall, and special sessions with networking opportunities. It also covers ETS staff costs for planning the annual meeting, and the addition of staff to help run and manage the features of a complex virtual meeting. We anticipate that savings in travel, lodging, and other expenses will significantly reduce the cost of participating in this year’s meeting, allowing many to attend who may not ordinarily be able to do so.

What are the dates for the 2020 Annual Meeting?

This year’s Annual Meeting will take place November 16-20. This increase from the usual 3 day meeting has been made to accommodate the different needs and schedules of those attending a virtual meeting. We understand that many attendees will have normal class and work schedules this year, as well as family responsibilities, and will not be able to attend the Annual Meeting full-time. For that reason, we are providing a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, to offer as much flexibility as possible so that you can attend the conference around your schedule. Many of the sessions will be recorded and available to view beginning Monday, November 9. Panel sessions and discussion sessions will be live as indicated in the schedule.
We have worked hard to accommodate those attending from various time zones in North America and around the world. In addition, sessions will be recorded, so if you cannot attend live, you will be able to view them later. In this way, more of the Annual Meeting will be available to you than ever before, and you will be able to view sessions through the end of June, 2021!
