Start Date:

The Biblical and Theological Studies Division of Moody Bible Institute seeks to appoint a full-time junior or senior faculty member to its Chicago campus in preparation for the 2020-2021 academic year. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in historical theology, excellent communication skills, involvement in academic research, eagerness to mentor students and perform faculty service, and enthusiasm for MBI’s mission and theological commitments.

Teaching responsibilities will consist of 12 hours per semester and lie mainly in the undergraduate school, although the ability to teach at the seminary level and/or in our online venues would be an asset. There will be occasional opportunities to teach in Israel and Europe through the international studies program. Primary undergraduate teaching needs include Christianity and Western Culture 1-2, Historical Theology 1-2, and elective courses in historical theology and church history. The successful candidate will assist in annual program assessment and will be willing and able to serve as a program head, if needed. An appropriate Master’s degree is the minimum requirement for this position. Preference will be given to applicants with prior college-level teaching experience, significant ministry leadership experience, administrative potential, proven competency to promote and enhance ethnic and cultural diversity, as well as a Ph.D. in Historical Theology, Church History, or Theology in hand by the time of appointment (July 1, 2020). Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Preliminary interviews will begin in November, 2019.

MBI faculty are expected to engage in transformational teaching, possess a collegial spirit, have a deep concern for the spiritual formation of students, and seek to prepare them for vocational and avocational ministry. MBI is broadly dispensational and generally Calvinistic. Faculty must annually affirm MBI’s doctrinal statement (https://www.moodybible.org/beliefs/positional-statements/) and supplementary documents on inerrancy and human sexuality.
