ETS Executive Director Search

Dear Members of the Evangelical Theological Society:

Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! I trust you are well. I am writing to let you know that the Executive Committee of ETS has asked me to serve as chair of the search process that will seek, with God’s help and guidance, to find the right person to follow Mike Thigpen in the role of ETS Executive Director.

I think we all agree that Mike has provided excellent leadership for ETS in recent years. We will certainly miss Mike’s capable oversight for the work of ETS, but we are excited for him as he prepares to begin his new role as Provost at Phoenix Seminary early this coming summer.

Those who will serve with me on the search committee include:

  • Gregg Allison, Professor of Theology and Historical Theology at Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. Gregg serves as Secretary of ETS.
  • Don Carson, Distinguished Emeritus Professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Theologian-at-Large for The Gospel Coalition. Don serves as Vice President of ETS.
  • Dan Estes, Distinguished Professor of Old Testament, Cedarville University.
  • Mike Kruger, President of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC. Mike recently completed his term as President of ETS.
  • Stefana Dan Laing, Assistant Professor of Divinity and Theological Librarian at Beeson Divinity School.
  • Eric Moore, Associate Professor of Applied Theology at Moody.

All of these people have been quite active in the life and work of ETS through the years.

We want to invite full members interested in serving in the role of Executive Director to submit a CV and cover letter. These materials should be submitted through the ETS website at: (Please note you must be a current full member and be logged in to the site to access the form.) We would also invite you to encourage full members you know that might be interested in serving in this role to consider submitting their materials. CVs and cover letters will be received until the end of the day on March 16, 2020 (approximately one month). We hope to have the new Executive Director in place by July 1, 2020 if at all possible. A job description for the position can be found here:

Let me thank you in advance for your faithful prayers for this process as well as your prayers for the Evangelical Theological Society.
