POSITION MISSION
This full-time position exists to support the mission of Prairie College “to establish God’s kingdom by equipping and mentoring individuals through biblically integrated education for life and careers that will meet the greatest needs of the world”. This specific role is to provide excellent leadership and teaching in Intercultural Studies.

CONTEXT
Prairie College has a hundred-year heritage of developing students for missionary endeavors, particularly to the least and the lost of the world. Mission is one of the core values of the College. Thus intercultural studies and mission is not one academic discipline among many but rather a core commitment in all disciplines.

Prairie College would consider a secondment from a mission organization for this role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach a full-time faculty load of twenty-four credit hours each academic year, with the primary instructional area in Intercultural Studies.
  • Serve as a Program Coordinator for leadership and administrative responsibilities for the Discover and Intercultural programs; providing primary leadership in the development of philosophy, rationale, and curriculum (Program Coordinator responsibilities are given the equivalent of three credit hours in the faculty load).
  • Oversight and guidance of program students in internships/practicums; oversight and direction for the GlobeTREK and Discover international travel experiences.
  • Participate in faculty responsibilities as described in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Participate in designated areas of co-curricular life as mutually agreed on with the Dean of Education.
  • Mentor and disciple students, particularly in the Intercultural and Discover programs.
  • Advise students in program and assist them in finding career futures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience in teaching/administration in Christian post-secondary education.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of the academic discipline of Intercultural Studies and Global Social Justice.
  • Excellent teaching skills in a post-secondary classroom setting.
  • Enthusiastic endorsement of Prairie’s focus and approach to teaching the whole Bible.
  • Passionate about preparing college students enrolled in a broad span of biblical, ministry and vocational programs for ministry and work.
  • Committed to shaping students for missional engagement regardless of their career direction.
  • Understanding of academic rigor appropriate to post-secondary education.
  • Ability and skill to relate well to college-age students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mission: Knowledge of and adherence to Prairie’s mission, vision, core values, statement of faith, and Community Covenant.
  • Church: Understanding of and commitment to the local church.
  • Gifting/Calling: Primary vocation is teaching. Evident love for teaching the Intercultural Studies. Senses a calling to fulfill this vocation at Prairie.
  • Education: A minimum level of a graduate degree in Intercultural Studies. (PhD preferred)
  • Experience: Two or more years of post-secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Ministry: Significant personal full-time involvement in cross-cultural work.
  • English Language: Excellent knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including composition and grammar.
  • Team attitude: Must have the ability to work in and contribute to a team.

In accordance with the standards of the government, preference given to qualified applicants who hold Canadian citizenship or are a permanent resident of Canada.
Prairie’s goal is to begin review of applicants by January 1, 2021 and to complete the hiring by March 31, 2021. However, applications will be received until the position is filled by a qualified person.
