Anderson University (SC) seeks applications for University Minister and Vice President for Christian Life. Founded in 1911, Anderson is an academically selective Christian university of approximately 4,000 students and is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Within nine colleges and schools, it offers bachelor’s, master’s, and professional and research doctoral degrees in 136 areas of study.

The Office of the University Minister and Vice President for Spiritual Life exists to nurture an environment in which students, faculty, and staff learn to love Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. It offers programs, persons, and resources to nurture theological depth, spiritual wholeness, and missional living.

The University Minister and Vice President for Spiritual Life is a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team and oversees all areas of campus ministry including Baptist Collegiate Ministries, women’s ministries, and missions, leading a staff of seven and numerous student and community volunteers. The VP also will be charged with the development and ongoing oversight of a co-curricular worldview series for students to launch in fall 2023. The VP works closely with the Dean of the Clamp Divinity School to offer the campus a robust and relevant weekly chapel program required of students. In addition, the VP works closely with the Office of Student Development, the Office of the VP for Church Engagement, and independent ministries such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) as they cooperate in offering ministry, education, worship, and outreach opportunities to the campus. The position reports directly to the Office of the President. Compensation is competitive.

Positions reporting directly to the Vice President include the Associate University Minister for Baptist Collegiate Ministries and Missions, the Associate University Minister for Women’s Ministries, and the Associate University Minister for Worship Arts.

The successful candidate will have the following achievements and attributes: engaging personality; reflective, thoughtful, and deliberative method; excellent communicator, teacher, and preacher with a devotion to university student ministry; a minimum master’s, preferred doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university or seminary; minimum of six years of progressive experience in higher education and/or ministry that includes university students; a commitment to racial and ethnic diversity; affirmation of the University’s Statement of Faith; a healthy respect for and commitment to the South Carolina Baptist Convention; and willingness to be an active member of an area Southern Baptist church.
