Description:

Description:

1 Peter manifests a surprising textual diversity behind its citation of the OT. The majority of scholars hold that 1 Pet 2:6 cites a variation of the Septuagint text that was, for some reason, modified. While a few suggest that the author himself modified the text, no one has sufficiently considered the reasons behind this modification. This article will examine the various possibilities behind 1 Peter’s version of the text, including potential interrelation between 1 Peter and Romans. This article argues that the modification of the LXX ἐμβάλλω to τίθημι in 1 Pet 2:6 is both deliberate and exegetically significant. It was changed for lexical, theological, and discourse reasons.”
