This chapter will explore the connections between environmental ethics and clinical ethics within the Catholic Social Tradition. After offering a case study illustrative of the complications inherent in clinical ethics, I will trace the intellectual foundations of secular biomedical ethics and clinical ethics. Then, Catholic health care ethics—primarily derived from the Ethical and Religious Directives—and the ecological concerns within the Catholic Social Tradition will be highlighted. Finally, I will argue for an ecological application of the Ethical and Religious Directives, particularly in advance care planning.
